I have had 3 Ameracanas and they have all been rather skittish - however, my most recent one is not nice at all!
As a matter of fact, her main goal is to walk around and PECK any other hen that...
We've been raising these birds for years. Aside from a tendency to heat intolerance, the biggest downside to this breed is the HUGE amount of poop they produce - think turds the size of golf...
We love our Bantam La Fleche. The La Fleche are a rare French breed that can be difficult to find here in the US. They're shiny black plumage and unique V-comb make them stand out at the...
These birds have been the foundation of our flock. They have stood up to the arid Colorado weather here which means cold winters, hot summers and not much rain so no many plants or bugs. Very...
I had some chicks turn up as roos and my hubby butcherd them but they had been on medicated chick starter is it safe to eat them? They had purina start and grow. The active ingrediant is amprolium. Thank you
Mother to two beautiful children DD 3yo and DS 1yo. Plus 3 red stars 1 light Brahma and 2 silkies!
For future reference, Amprolium does not have a withdrawal time, so you can eat them at any time. However, you can usually google search something like "(drug name) FDA withdrawal time" to bring up the recommendations from FDA for the minimum amount of time you should wait.
I'm eating mine. But in the future I'm cutting it out 1 month before slaughter if I have medicated feed. Here in Hawaii, organic feed is $44.00 a bag for un medicated. The feed I use for young chickens is milled here in the islands and is medicated.$ 22.50 per bag.
medicated usually means antibiotics and antibiotics are bad unless you got a bad bacterial infection. using antibiotics as a preventative medicine is a bad no no in animals and humans because the bug can build up resistance to the antibiotic if it is not used properly. The way i look at it is why medicate if there is no sickness. Everybody should be informed about this. Keep it simple when it comes to feeding our animals children and family.
