Lavender Ameraucana Breeders .... UNITE

Reading through this thread it sounds like it's possible for a L.A to be beardless/muff-less? I'm not breeding mine, so that's not a concern. But I ordered 2 LA's and only 1 has the beard/muffs.

Of course it is possible, but I would hesitate calling my birds Ameraucanas if they lack beards and muffs. The gene is dominant, so the recessive "muffless" gene can hide easily. Took several years of heavy culling to eliminate it from my line of Mottleds, but it can be done. Raise a lot of chicks, you can tell the ones with a clean face very early, sell them cheaply to make room for the ones that look the best and only breed from the very best in each generation.
Being a proper breeder and not just a "chicken raiser with an incubator" is hard work. Anyone who is the later can work to improve their knowledge and techniques and become really good at breeding their lines of poultry. It is rewarding, but not profitable.
