The most common chicken health problems?

I'm currently working on a small book designed to help diagnose, prevent, and treat medical issues found in backyard chicken flocks. I have it divided up into diseases, injuries, and other physical ailments, and at this point I feel like I've got most of the major items covered. However, I'd love to hear from other chicken owners regarding what seems to pop up most often in your birds, and the more obscure troubles that took you forever to diagnose. Heck, if you'd like to weigh in on what you would want to see in a first aid book for small flock owners, I'd love to hear that as well. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Respiratory Diseases, worms, where I live. And when chicks are bunched together, Marek's.

Good luck~

It's the shape that makes the breed, and the color that makes the variety.

What is wrong with a chicken when she twists her neck down under by her feet. Her head is upside down and her neck is twisted and she shakes and won't eat or drink.

Sounds like wry neck, which can be caused by injuries, vitamin deficiency, or a few diseases like Marek's and Newcastle. That one symptom probably isn't enough to pin the problem down, but I hope you get it sorted out.

Thanks for the input, JGF.
