Processing complete6/30

We processed our 8 week old white broilers this morning. Our smallest was 5.25 lbs. and the largest was 6.85 lbs. the normal range was 6.25-6.50lbs. All dressed weight . We are going to do 60 more in the late summer.they were a blast to raise.

good for you.  i wish i could say that.  i'm going to do my first meat chickens this fall.  i've read everything & read the posts, but nothing is making me feel easier about killing them. i guess it's just "get 'er done" & then things will be easier.

sounds like you had great sized birds.  60 birds is a lot of birds.  i think i'm going to try 25 for my first time.

yes if you've never done them I'd definately recommend starting with the minimum 25.

Well The processing part is something personal.myself I need to look at it this way.i made a conscious descsion to eat better food.i then made a conscious decision to raise my food. I now need to finish the process. I need to see things through. It would be easy to raise the birds for eight weeks and send them to a processor.although I don't even know of one here in Connecticut.it is a massive responsibility to take life and one that should not be taken lightly.the way I look at it that chickens life was predetermined before it was hatched.it was very well cared for and will be very well appreciated as it enriches mine,coupled with the whole experience it is well worth it all around. We are going to sell most of the birds in the fall.trying our birds is what has got most of the 60 spoken for.
