Favorite Chicks to Raise? - Page 2

My favorite are my EEs. Even the roosters are nice! Buff Orpingtons are great too! They are really nice and docile.

I am going to enjoy finding out which are my favorites after I hatch these eggs.

I am a wife and a mother to 1 son, 2 daughters, 2 step sons, 3 step daughters.

I currently have Two Barred Rock Hens and 1 Dominique Roo

and 6 baby barred rock/dominique mix and 1 Black Sex Link Jersey Giant.

2nd hatch date  7/23  I have a lot late on this hatch.

3rd hatch date   7/24  I think a lot are going to be late with the rest due to still air incubator.

4th hatch date   7/26

I just started raising chickens about a month ago.  My favorites so far are the buff orpingtons.  They are by far the most friendly and docile of my birds.

We are down to a Barred Rock, Australorp and 2 Laced Wyandottes. Our Barred is the alpha and the meanest of the bunch. We had some die last year but I think our faves would have had been our Polish and our Light Brahma. I have 6 chicks growing now, 1 buff orpington, 2 salmon faverolles, one rhode island red, a golden buff and a red star. Can't wait to see how these girls are. We don't get roosters because they always end up being mean.

I've raised 6 batches of chicks (assorted layers and also broilers).  I didn't order any chicks this year....I decided to let a mama do it.  I have to say that these are by far my favorite chicks to raise!  Mama does all the work...turning the eggs, "candling" (discarding the bad eggs), maintains proper brooder temp, teaches them how to eat, keeps them safe, and LOVES them!!!  All I have to do is enjoy those cute little fuzzies!

I know I'm not really answering your question correctly.....but just had to throw that in there lol.png

If I had to pick a breed....delawares :)

We started with three baby chicks. One turned out to be an Easter Egger rooster. By far the friendliest of the three. But, had to get rid of him. The others are Production Red, and Black Sex Link. They are a few months old, and we can't get anywhere near the Black Sex Link. And the PR only comes near us if there's a handful of meal worms being offered. Two weeks ago, we fell in love with a couple of Silkies. We were told they were about 3.5 months old, never been handled..so wouldn't be very friendly at first.

Second day, they were taking naps on my children's laps. They are the first out of the coop to greet us..and follow us all over the yard.  We LOVE them!!

Hands down, NNs.  They are by far the sweetest chicks!

our bantam brahma chicks have been gorgeous & the boys really friendly, one was a leghorn hen (bought in eggs!) that was flighty from the start

and wouldnt let us touch her, she's grown into a real character though.  My friend's started breeding as a small business she had a load of chicks

when I visited - the one that stood out was a little Poland, it was so funny, kept marching out in front of the others stretching its head up

& staring at us with that little tuft on its head!

Not a lot of experience, but i have raised RIR's, araucana/EE's, broilers and Buff Orpingtons, the BO's are my all time favorites though the araucana/EE's are very sweet.  My BO's run up to greet me and stand 'in line' for me to hold and snuggle them.  They are very curious and seem to crave human contact.
