Compost and Picky Eaters

Might I end up with moldy and stinky stuff in my run if the girls choose not to eat much of my compost? I have three pullets who are picky eaters. I have composters for my kitchen scraps and the bedding I clean out of the chicken coop. Some people simply dump their compost into their runs, I know, but I wonder if doing that is a good idea for me. The run is under my coop and tricky to get at on a daily basis to pick out treats the girls don't like. I always feed them in the coop.

That really depends on how much compost you put in there, how wet it stays, and how dry the ground stays. I feed my food scraps to my Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae. I made a BSF compost bucket that house my larvae. I put my feed scraps in I get great live feed for my chicks!

Check out my post on it for more info and some videos I did!

Hope that helps and like always God Bless!!

Thanks Mat. I may just go with red wrigglers which was my original thought. That would be safer than risking a moldy mess. I really like your Youtube videos. You are living my urban farm dream... except I am in Canada and my outdoor growing season is very short.
