I have 7 silkies. One black and one gold are supposedly males. Not sure yet which ones. They are all doing well so far. The new coop will be here tomorrow. Holds up to 25 hens. They difinitely need a bigger coop now.

They are great. I lost all my silkies during a fox attack. I was heartbroken. I love silkies! These look great. Cockerel silkies have 'gelled' looking feathers at the top of their head, pointing backwards. Girls hair are more fluffy

that is what i thought. one of the gold ones follows me around and has the gelled spiked crown. thinking that is the roo.

so sorry about your silkies. praying here mine don't get attacked. i try to keep them secure at night but foxes are sly. So are minks!

We lost 4 Silkies to some foxes a couple of weeks ago. We have 1 white Silkie rooster left, about 4 months old, who has eyes for the biggest hen in our little group of 8. She's a large white rock, who doesn't appreciate his attention. She's about 3 months old. It's some good humor watching him chase her and what she does to avoid him.

We'd like to get a few Silkies to give him someone to huddle with at night, but it'll have to be local. I'm having trouble finding someone on BYC in Massachusetts with Silkie hens to sell.

I have the egg that was left behind from my attacked silkies, as my broody decided for some reason that she was going to hatch one egg that week. So, it's in the bator and is due... now! It will mean so much to me, that chick.

It's horrible when you try to keep them safe and they die like that. Horrific. I am now in the process of making my new ones a bomb proof coop and run :)

Sorry to hear you can't get silkies over where you are. Chickens (and esp silkies) are everywhere in England at the mo!

Aww your silkies are so pretty!!! :D I have one black pullet now she is a sweety...I had 5 but a cat got them :(
I'm looking for more now that the cat is gone.

Thank you. I am very careful and more careful after the incident. Felt so bad. The kittens want to play with the chickens b ut the chickens don't want to play lol
