I have a brown duck, shes the same age as my Mallard duck but a lot bigger, It's not letting me post pictures for some reason, shes all brown, with a lighter brown around each of her feathers, I've got a picture of her in my photo's I can try to upload to my albums, Also I was wondering why my mallard duck is making a whistle like calling noise.

Are these the ducks in your avatar? The brown duck sounds a bit like a Dark or Khaki Campbell in colour (but if it's the one in your avatar then s/he has an orange-ish bill whereas Campbells have a dark bill).

Does your brown duck have a solid brown head as if s/he is wearing a hood, and/or a curled or lifted feather on the tail? These are male characteristics. The biggest giveaway is the voice though - ducks go 'QUACK QUACK QUACK' but drakes go 'raaab raaab raaab'.

I'm not sure about the whistling noise from the mallard. Any chance of a YouTube video? smile.png

Here you go! smile.png To me she looks rather Campbell-ish, too, although the bill is lighter than typical. She's beautiful!

Does look sort of Campbell-ish doesn't she? She also looks like maybe a cross-breed of some kind...you probably don't know what her parents were...

(Is your toolbar missing? Mine was gone for a couple days - you might want to check this thread, if yours is, too http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/682884/i-dont-have-the-toolbar-when-posting-anyone-else-having-that-problem)

Duck hens get hoarse rather early - I've got 4 Ancona females that are just over a month old, and most are pretty hoarse/quacky (not real peeps most of the time). They aren't mature quacks, though (except for one, who's pretty quacky - though I think it still has some changing to do). My male (same age) still kinda peeps, but that may change soon.

I just realized something - I am not absolutely positive, but Campbell drakes may first grow in "girl" patterning, and then molt that out for the male pattern - and Khaki Campbell drakes actually often have a lighter bill. Hmm....
