ants on my green beans!

We are having ants on our beans also, but, like Stony, noticed the plants are still thriving with new growth. I'm new to gardening, but have watched the ants over and again. They are definitely not leafcutter. However, I am not sure with the aphid idea either as I have checked plants and leaves.

Basically, the old leaves are trashed (skeletonized), but it is producing pods and new leaves. I'm a little perplexed. :)

I have a problem with ants and fava beans every year. As the fava beans are located in an area of my yard with quite a few ant hills. I do the following.

1)Repeatedly spray down your bushes. Ants hate the water and with a little persistance they normally vacate to a drier area.
2) If they stick around a simple water bottle with a few drops of soap in it sprayed in the affected areas.
3) if you notice any ant hills in and around the area, a pot of boiling water will make them leave. (warning boiling water will also kill any plant material it touches, i learned that the hard way a few years ago

Hope it helps
