One of my SPC chicks is the exact same way! On another thread however, I was told its a tardy gene. Do you have an updated pic of your roo?

Bump!

Your chick looks like mine, Inthesticks. Any updates??

People keep saying its a partridge Cochin, but I've looked up the chicks on google images and I don't see them matching up. This little one has a lil flip in its feathers and is slow to feather out. How did everyone else's turn out?!

Hi @blackshawdog, I'm still suspicious of Boots being a roo, but unfortunately, I can't be certain quite yet. I'm thrown off because my other (whom I think is a pullet) has such a red comb and wattles. I also suspected the hatchery sent me a partridge by mistake, but he is indeed a Silver Penciled.

Boots is on the right, Lula is on the left.

This is Boots close up.

And this is Lula on the left, Boots on the right again. The frizzled appearance seems to have subsided over time. Boots is feathering at a much slower rate than Lula still. What I've read about the Tardy gene is that it's a male dominant trait--as is slow feathering. So I'm leaning in the direction of roo for him. His feet have significantly longer feathers than my suspected pullet, too. Behavior wise, he's just begun chest bumping others and rounding all the chicks up every chance he gets. His behavior adds to my suspicions further. I'll keep posting updates as I observe more!

Today, Boots' first baby hatched! Boots is obviously a hen, and turned out not to be frizzled. She just has a tardy gene. Her and my Silkie Roo made this beautiful little baby, Bailey! On the bottom is Lula, also a definite hen, doing what she does best!
