I have 4 silkies, One is laying eggs she is a year and 1/2 the other is supposedly 6months or so(bought them as adults) she too is laying eggs.  I think though she may be about 10 months because I noticed a smaller egg the other day so from what I hear from other silkie owners that seems to be about the time most start laying :)  My other are 2 1/2 months so I think I will have to wait on them.

My coop: 6 Silkies, one a partridge roo, 2 buff, 1 black 2 splash hens, 2 Easter Egger hens, 2 Wyandotte hens, and 2 Old English bantam hens, 2 Jersey giant hens

Wow, so 4 more months ( for her to be 10 months )

Will she lay during fall/winter then? Or do they lay at specific months?
How do I know there mating/breeding? (Sorry don't know the correct word for chickens )

I hear they will lay in the winter if you leave a lightbulb in your coop to keep them warm but it decreases.  I think you have to candle (sp?) eggs to see if they have been fertilized but I too am really new to this :)
