Dark color means the blood is flowing hot. That could mean his hormones are raging or he's just plain hot.  How hot is it where you are?

I bet its his hormones too. I have a 15 week old roo and when I open the coop doors in the morning he comes out like a little tornado, just all wound up and feisty. I'll have to check comb color, though.
