Pullets stressed by new run

My girls have used a the covered run under their coop for two months. This week I created an extension to use on the run when they are supervised, its just 4' plastic safety fencing and a tarp for shade. My alpha girl, Momma, did not come out the first night; she chose to perch in the open doorway. The other two enjoyed pecking around and then went in on their own at dusk. The second night Momma did come out. The girls, who normally get along very well, fought off and on for two hours and my Barred Rock attempted to fly out -- through the blue tarp -- twice.  Is it normal for chickens to be upset by changes to their runs? They've been happy in their cramped permanent run but I assumed they'd want more space. Now I'm not so sure.

Sounds a little odd to me, but I'm sure they'll sort it out just fine. Chickens are weird sometimes, just like people. I'd give it a couple more days for them to adjust to the change...

Chickens don't like change... period. But they will get over it quickly.
