New Roost - paint, oil, leave bare??

Just built a new coop (finally, I bet a few of you know what I mean) and my roosts are bare wood - so far.  I think I should just oil (coconut, peanut) them and leave em that way.  My thinking is better for the girls feet than the paint.  My hesitation has sent me here.  Sowhadoyatink? and Thank You.

Mine are natural cedar. I would leave them bare wood. Paint won't hurt but if you use oil, I would go for mineral oil. Coconut and peanut might attract guests and will turn rancid eventually.

I've left the wood inside my coop bare, no paint and no oil. The advice was that I should paint it and I still could. I'm finding is that in my dry climate and the open-air coop the poop dries and brushes off owith ease. When winter comes I may be changing my mind. I'm a newbie, too.

I painted my roost under the premise that it would be easier to clean than bare wood.

I have no experience to the contrary.
