Our city is about ready to pass BYC ordinance so I would like to know if there is a preference to what time of the year is best to start my BYCs ?

welcome-byc.gif from West Virginia! I got my babies at the end of March. I figured the cold would pretty much be gone by the time they could go out in their coop and pen. I guess it just depends on where you live and when you are ready to get them. Good luck!!!

Hi and welcome-byc.gif

Spring is a good time to get chickens - we got out first ones in spring and it was pretty smooth sailing. Of course you can start raising any time, if you've got sufficient heating for the chicks when they're young.

Good luck, and I hope you find all the info you need! big_smile.png

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan big_smile.png

Home of the world's cutest dachshund, one crazy blue heeler, two cats,
one fat pony, and many (but not too many!) chickens

Can anyone tell me, how many are too many chickens?
