I have excellent news!!! We have had buyers from the forum show up to get chickens and a guy in Cali has contacted her about her emus. Through craigslist, she sold 20 geese and has pre sold the rest of her African flock! She also got a vet to come out tomorrow afternoon to do the tests!!!

All is moving full steam ahead. We are planning to leave Saturday evening to go get 70+ dewlaps and 5 Africans (3 for me and a pair for a wonderful lady local to me). big_smile.png
My menagerie includes 5 horses, 3 dogs, 4 cats, 32 geese (dewlap toulouse & african) and 10 ducks (muscovy, ancona, cayuga & silver appleyard).

Hey Celtic, I am doing a serious happy dance at how well this is coming together.  I am impressed that the lady has been doing an awesome job to make sure this happens. As of last count, we have 52 greys (adults/juveniles), 41 buffs (adults/juveniles), and 21 african juveniles.  She is separating, vent sexing, and id'ing the birds with vet today.... so I expect to have a final count by tonight.

I have a 10am vet appt for Spirit, so my morning is jammed.  But I will call you when I get back.  It will probably be late afternoon your time.

Ok,  while I cant take geese, maybe this would be some practical help. Kings feed is in Kings  City, and might be on the way between  you and the geese. I bet if you are useing that much feed you could pick up a wholesale order and save a lot on feed.

If you want the exact address I can get it from DH.

And if you need a room for the night on your way there or back, we are in San Jose!

Chiqita, very nice to offer, but we are planning to stay with the lady, as that seems the easiest.

Since you are so close, it would be great if you could ask around. There are still 35+ geese that need local placement.

Oh Iian, that is WONDERFUL news! I am so happy. I just knew the good people here on BYC would help give these guys homes. I am really glad the Craigslist ad has brought locals to buy some too. It sounds as if she is going to be able to save everyone from going to the meat sale! Have a safe trip when you go to pick up the Dewlaps and make sure to get some pictures!

Wow, Iain, thats gonna keep you busy.  We have only one of her gray dewlap toulouse, so I could rehome 2, but I'm pretty far away from you, and I don't evenn want to think about what shipping to Kansas would be.

Why don't sheep shrink in the rain?

Why is there brail at drive up ATMs??

Why are their floatation devices instead of parachutes in my airplain seat???

If a tree falls in the woods and my husband doesn't hear it, am I still wrong????

Sadly, the situation may not be going as well as hoped.  It seems we are hung up on how the vet bill is going to get paid again.  Apparently I misunderstood that the lady was planning to pay the vet, because she just emailed me asking for my credit card to pay the vet because they will not pay it.  I'm sorry but I cannot do that on top of my commitment to pay transportation costs and everything else.  I had a lot of positive responses about fund raising efforts for the vet, but no one has actually stepped up and offered any money yet.

Hey Marty, glad to see you on this thread.  I thought you had a few buffs too?  Accordingly to Celtic's math, it will cost approximately $180 for an adult pair to be shipped.

My menagerie includes 5 horses, 3 dogs, 4 cats, 32 geese (dewlap toulouse & african) and 10 ducks (muscovy, ancona, cayuga & silver appleyard).

I do have buffs, but only 1 gray.  I was gonna mate it with Luna, so they would just be gray toulouse, but of course Luna is gone.  Now he's alone.  They buffs are two pairs, so I'm leaving them togather.
