She's perked up and is drinking. What now? Should we keep an eye on her? What to look for?

what is her temp? You need to worry more about that then if she is drinking. Dogs don't use gatorade like people, they don't sweat. I see she is drinking, just give her water.

she will always be more suseptable to heat stroke after suffering it once.

Don't know how bad she was but if she isn't up and about, get her to a vet.

I'm so thankful your dog is better and trying to drink.

As dutchhollow has already stated, your dog will be very sensitive to high temperatures for the rest of her life.  It will be especially  important to keep her cool and calm in the near future.

I meant to ask what kind of dog is it? A bulldog, pug, boxer, pekinese? Smushed face dogs cannot keep cool as well as other dogs. I'm babysitting my best friends old english because he had a heat stroke last year and almost died. They've just had a baby and couldn't keep him in the house until baby is bigger. (the dog is like a bull in a china shop)

NEVER  use cold water on a dog with heat stroke as this can cause SHOCK and death.

use luke warm/ cool (NOT COLD) water.

while your dog is feeling better, i wanted to post this for anyone else who may be reading or if this ever happens again.

if you want to encourage your dog to drink, add some salt free chicken or beef broth (dont use boullion or cubes use REAL broth) and mix it with the water.

dogs general loose most of there body heat thru the ears and feet,  so the next time this happens take your dog imedietly into the bath tub and fill with luke warm/cool water (remember a dogs body temps are higher then ours, so what luke warm water is to us is much cooler to them)  rub (dont dump or pour!) some of the water onto the outside of the ear to help it cool while keeping the feet and  part of the legs submerged. you can poor water over the back ect.

if your in a place where you dont have access to a tub, grab a bottle of water and rub onto the ears and pour onto the feet and legs

again PLEASE dont dump ice cold or cold water onto a dog whos suffering heat stroke as this CAN cause shock and death...

another good tip is to use wet towels (same lukewarm water) and put cold compresses on the groin area.    There is a bit less hair and the blood vessels are a bit closer to the skin.

However, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  Make sure that your dogs have a cool place to go when it's hot.   Many dogs also like a baby pool that they can relax in and cool off.    There should always be plenty of cool water available.   Don't over-exert them in the heat of the day.    If you see your dog starting to act distressed, start cooling IMMEDIATELY.

you can also wipe the paw pads with rubbing alcohol. I'm not sure how it works, but it cools them down faster.
