I'm married 25 years and have 2 adult children, Tim and Taryn, and one cat. I've been a registered nurse for 25 years.

Hello,

My name is Tammy and I'm from Ohio. I've been a little nervous about posting, but I want to get to know all I can about my new endeavor.  I've rarely ever even went into a feed store. In March, I went into Royal King's grand opening in Circleville, Ohio and bought 4 barred rock pullets and 2 mixed banthams.

I have never done anything so spontaneous as that. I had to get a cage and supplies. My dh was as surprised as I, when I came home with 6 chickens.

These chickens have changed our lives. You know the saying: When one door closes another one opens. It's always true with me.

I have never been close to a chicken. I've only seen them from a car. When I saw them, I thought of them as little mindless robots. Boy, was I wrong! Each one has their own personality. And, there is a lot of drama going on in their pen. Sometimes, it's like I have 6 teenage girls. It couldn't have come at a better time.

I needed something to fuss with and to reprimand since my adult daughter moved out and my mother died. I guess, I was lonely and didn't know it.  The barred rock hens and one of the bantham roosters are the sweetest things. The information here has been wonderful.

Thanks for all that you do!!!

Welcome to the insane world of CHICKENS!  jumpy.gif

I, too, fell in love with my chickens.

I started out with 6 chicks from TSC and then expanded to 12 after going to some swaps.

Then I discovered online auctions and hatching eggs!

Wooohoo!

Now I'm up to over 100 chickens and loving every minute of it.  D.gif

Welcome to the group. I have just 4 barred rock chicks.. But I love them so much. I see that you are a nurse! I am just about finished with my pre-nursing classes and will be starting on the nursing program next spring. I can't wait to do clinicals... But that is a year off at least. Glad to have you on here!
