Roosters blinding chickens?

I doubt this is normal, but I have 2 copper Maran Roosters that have basically blinded 3 of my young Russian Orloff hens during attempts at matting.  One of the hens died and the other 2 are not looking too good and I don't think they will recover.  I am basically at the point now where the roosters are going to be visiting freezer camp for a while.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Oh gee!  That's terrible.  I've never had that happen, but I would do the same as you.  That kind of behavior is WAY too violent!

Proud owner of some nice show quality Buckeyes and Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks.  I love gardening and being outdoors.  I'm lucky to have a great family, and two cute dogs.  I live out in the country on six wooded acres and it's just paradise!  (Except the mortgage payment and bills, of course)

Also, the roosters seem to try to mate/dominate anything smaller than themselfves (but they seem to leave the ducks alone).  So, they are constantly picking on the small guineas and young hens.  The Russian Orloff girls are the only ones that seem to be having a problem with their eyes getting hurt.  I have tossed the Roosters out of the coop to freerange during the day for now.  Once the eyes are hurt, I think the bird is a gonner since they can not see to eat.  Right now I have to bring the wounded Orloff girls to water and dip their beaks so they can drink.  Not really what I want to be doing.  It is too bad.  The Orloffs are just the sweetest little chickens.  They loved to hop on my shoulder and snuggle under my chin.
