My 6 hens turn out to be 4 and 2 roos..what to do?

What to do?  I have a roo Buff Orp...beautiful bird...and a roo Australorp...also beautiful bird.

I have kids..and don't want to deal with an aggressive roo.  So far they are both very very friendly to us(3 months old)....but in a 12x8x8 coop I am sure they will fight at some point.  I would rather sell them off now while my kids are only kinda attached to them..replace them with confirmed hens of similar age..and be done with it. I have convinced my 6 year old that they might get mean when they get older...so she is ready to get rid of them ..today if possible. :) My thought is that it would be easier to get rid of them both...IE no boys allowed....no choice to be made between them...etc...

Yet.... I really like both birds...like the loud crow at sun up...like that the buff love to have me scratch his waddles....

I am leaning on the side of no boys allowed....some one tip me full on over with some sound advice!

Also...I cant post pics...

Bawk Bawk...Doooodle dooo!!

A rooster drew blood on my youngest child around 5 years ago. We put him down.

Chickens are individuals and we have had some very sweet roosters.

Roosters are not trustworthy with children, though. Especially around their eyes. Depends on the age of your children and whether they are going to be doing chicken chores.

Oh- I see you have a 6 year old. Yep, I'd wait to have roos personally.

issue resolved.... An rural egg farmer took the boys and I came home with 3 new ladies...funny how that goes...take 2 away get 3..I have heard of chicken math...hmmmmm.... What came home were a Golden Laced Wyandotte.. aka Betsy, a RIR aka Lucy Rose after Lucile Ball and a Barred Rock aka Cookie or Oreo. Welcome home girls..and see ya boys... have fun with the 300 hens you now have access to.  Was Sad to see them go...both very very handsome lads...very very sweet..but why risk it right? Right?

Sounds like they will be very happy with so many ladies to strut for.

Good luck with your new girls.  Hope they merge into your other 4 smoothly.

Good call. It's great for kids to be able to interact with the birds, and having to worry about a rooster would take all the fun out of it.

Well, the kittens aren't so cute anymore and the easter egger cockerels are in the freezer. Plus, I think offering them as "prizes" scared folks off! So, I'm still posting quotes, if you know it let me know. I'm very enamored of this new one, it may hang around for a while!
