cock a doodle doo--good morning all

I have been lurking for awhile and finally decided to join this little flock.  (Heard that before?)  I have always liked chickens and collect all things chicken.  When we moved to the country 21 years ago a friend (?) gave me a hen and her chicks.  They were totally free range and very unattended.  So soon I had chicks and roosters running everywhere.  A hawk got the last aged rooster and my chicken days were over for years.

Last Mother's Day my girls presented me with a small coop and the grandkids painted chickens on the sides.  Within days I had a young silkie that had been picked on in her first home by the bigger hens.  She was a lap sitter and cuddle bug.  I put the hubby to work building a pen.  We found some long panels with hardwire in an old corn crib to repurpose and used them for the sides.  the top is covered in chicken wire.  I was gifted 2 black copper marans and an EE.  They seldom chase my little Sugar these days and I get at least 3 eggs a day.

We also have a horse, barn cats, and a house dog.  I'm looking forward to being part of this group of chicken addicts.  Birds of a feather flock together!!  :)

I WAS ALWAYS TAUGHT TO RESPECT MY ELDERS, BUT IT KEEPS GETTING HARDER TO FIND ONEidunno.gif

The irony of life is that, by the time You're old enough to know your way around, You're not going anywhere.tongue.png
