Setting eggs week of 7/13... Anyone with me?? - Page 17

Hi gang,

I set my eggs on Saturday and candled last night (yeah, I couldn't help it). The location of my yolk seems weird (I've never incubated before ... only used broody hens). Can you help me? Might not get a camera near her. Braces this year. Lol. But pics of hatchlings? You got it. About half are showing veining. Considering that the one batch STILL has detached air cells from the postal gorillas, 50% wouldn't be bad. We shall see . Can't hatch if you don't try, or give up. Given their varied origins I'll let them all run long as well.

Just candled a couple of my shipped Lavender and Lemon Cuckoo Orps. 1 couldnt tell to dark for my light. 3 Looked GREAT. Air sacks looked stable!!!!! The three that I could see through were Lemon Cuckoo's. I am praying to get a couple Lavenders also. They are HinkJC 5th generation! AND MY MOST WANTED BREED FOR SO LONG!!!!!! My local Blue Orp eggs are also 100% English. I all ready have a BEAUTIFUL English rooster from the same breeder. He is an absolute stunning big brute and I think he could win this year at my County Fair so I think I will give it a try, I know this is a hatching thread but will take some pics tomorrow so everybody can see my gentle giant Big Boy Blue. I will gladly give some of the grown out birds to anybody in this thread that would be willing to drive to pick them up. Would even consider driving a little ways, lets say up to an hour to help if somebody is just a little too far and that hour might help them. Would like to raise them up till they are fully feathered out. And would prefer to do pairs so I can make sure these 100% English lines stay pure. I would consider a couple of pullets to those with stupid local ordinances that won't allow roo's. Now time to turn the eggs and hit the hay.......oh I mean feathers.........Oh crap my bed is made out of memory foam...... So time to turn the eggs in the Reptipro and hit the memory foam!!!! Night night folks and happy hatching.

I wrote a great big post last night then got booted off line, lol......  So here goes again!!!  YEAH, that Peanut is doing well!!!!  Congrats to all on your new eggs and good candling!!!  Sorry for the those that lost eggs/chicks!!! 

 

I have some Faverolle, they are new to me.  I've got 8-7 week olds and 5-3 week old pullet that I bought as chicks, so I started with Light Brahmas and added the Faverolles and seeing great minds do think  alike, I like your thinking, lol..... 

 

On a sad note I lost one of my 7 week old Dorkings, I think it was the heat but not sure, so I'm down to 1 of them, pouts.....  Good thing I had 6 Dorkings hatch on the 10th of July, phew!!! 

 

I love my 2 new LB chicks(from 12 shipped eggs)!!!  They are sooo much lighter than my stock, hoping they cross in well next year. 

 

I too went crazy when I first started hatching, went from one bator to 2 bators and added a 3rd.  I came to my senses and sold bator #3 so down to 2 of them which is more than enough!!!  I'm safe from ordering eggs right now as both bators are full!!!  I set 39 LB eggs on the 11th and 37 Guinea eggs on the 15th.  This is my first try at the Guineas.  The Guineas are cool colors, some are dark purple, some are blue and some are chocolate.  So the wait is on......

 

Sweety13, I had some trouble with the LG at first, then someone posted a thread to "tips on LG incubators" find that link, worth reading!!!!  The LGs are so sensitive that they are easy to over adjust!!!  I added caps to the adjuster and it helped a TON!!!  Also learn to not touch it once it's right, add plugs and subtract plugs to help keep temps where you want them.  I add one plug at night when it cools off and pull it again in the morning this seems to be all I need to do to maintain the right temp without over adjusting the control.  Give it a try!!!

 

After reading all the posts, I HAD to go candle last night at midnight, lol.....  I candled 21 LBs and all but 1 looked good, we will see, looks like this could be a big hatch for me!!

Well, my replacement eggs should be here today. So I will have more Brahmas to add to the other 4.  Haven't candled yet. Trying to be good.

 

My son is wanting to try some store bought eggs (local free ranged), which I don't mind. Just not sure about what I may get. Any ideas or anyone try this yet?
