The incubator has been gone 50 years. It held no water. The wooden brooders is pretty much what we used.I did like the store bought brooder, but they are about$90.00 now.

Interesting to learn. I remember growing up with an incubator and I think it was metal. I don't remember too much about it though.

Kyzerc,
I've seen these setups before. Of course they are for the very short term. Ours TSC runs out of chicks very quickly. I have purchased one container for a brooder, but I expect I'll need a second one.

Thank you so much for sharing. I never realized there was so much I needed to gather and build for this project.,

I still have one of those round metal incubators! Yes it still works! I use it for reptile eggs which are not ever turned during incubation and are kept in plastic food containers until hatch. I took out the wire bottom, don't need it. I just use a few bowls of water for humidity. Depending on species and temperature most reptile eggs take 4-6 months to hatch!

That will work for a week or two. Maybe more if you only have 5-10 quail chicks. If you use shavings replace them often as they can pick at their poop and get enteritis and can get poop balls on their toes. Elevate feeders and waterers on bricks or wood as they grow so they just walk up and use them without dipping their heads. It will keep the shavings out. Better to use wire bottoms if possible, it's so much cleaner!

Kyzerc,
Yes I agree the wire bottoms are neater. I'll start with the tub set up that way if the other brooder doesn't get set up in time I still have something I can use. I surely hope I have enough space. My current tub is around 33" X 20". I was planning to pick up a second one. Do you think I will need a third one? I guess I find a third one just in case. That way I'll be safe.

Thank You,
