Oh Wow,Lapeerian! I'd have been in tears. I truly feel bad for you. Positive, THEY"RE LAYING!

Marlo1968, your eggs are so purdy. I'm sure the day one of my EE's lay I'll be calling and texting everybody like I did w the first one. I may have missed it,but when were yours hatched?

We got another egg today from #2 layer. Since the egg is white,I'm assuming it'f from my black minorca,Sydney. My RIR is still playing the false Laybor game. I have golf balls in 2 of them and 2 plastic eggs with a rock for weight in the other 2 boxes

The 2 eggs on the left are from the same pullet. The one on the right is from Tink,our first layer.  Youngest child and I worked in the hen house a bit today. We fluffed up the bottom layer of poo and shavings, added a fresh layer over it, and made sure there's plenty shavings in the boxes {5 gallon buckets}. I figured if we did a little work, they would return the favor. I honestly check for eggs like 3 or 4x's a day. The light makes the 2 same hen ones diff colors,but t's the same layer.Her eggs are longer and more oval than Tinks. {the ones in the carton are from Kroger}

Just don't do it on the same day and buy the eggs before the feed. Might hurt just a LITTLE bit less.  smile.png

Both in the coop.  Monday I found a larger egg laying in the yard but it had no shell.  Pretty much a membrane w/ a yoke.  Nothing else since.  I'm a little baffled?  When I get home and turn them out usually around 5 pm a couple of the girls will stray off on there own into the woods.  I'm thinking they me be laying out there???Any thoughts?idunno.gif

I used to let mine out late in the evening around the same time you did. I started getting up and letting them out of a morning and have noticed I am getting more eggs. My hens seem to like the privacy and will go back in the coop once all of the other chickens have started their daily foraging to lay. I also took an old blanket and but it up and covered the front of the nest boxes with a slit in it so that they would have it dark in the nest box.

I better get more than 2 eggs a day after finding a pile of 63!

Ok I'm getting really discouraged here in Boise. I've been feeding the girls yogurt mash, and calcium, electrolytes, and layer pellets...Frankie layed her second egg in 6 days, another Dud, at least it was inside the coop again. We went to the movies tonight, when we got home I went out to put them all to bed and Frankie was laying on the floor(not the roost as usual). When I lifted her up to set her on the roost, there it was another soft shelled mushy broken egghit.gif She is 18 weeks and 5 days old, her first egg was @ 17 weeks 6 days old?? Kind of depressing, but thought I'd post just in case there is someone else out there going through what we are. The temps continue to be brutal here high 90's and 100's, Tuesday it reached 106 ugghh!! We are surrounded in the valley by fires so the air is smokey and it's stifling hot. Young hen, temps, calcium? not sure the cause, but will try to remain chin up and be patient, we really didn't expect to start seeing any eggs till the end of this month or so anyway, so 2 is better than none? I guess. I will keep my expectations in check and think positive thoughtssmile.png

Congratulations to all the first eggers, I am very excited and amazed at all the cool shapes, colors and sizes of everyone first few eggs, oh and I mustn't forget Lapeerian's amazing 63 hidden eggs!!!! All I can say to that one is WOW!

And to the rest of us still waiting for that first pullet to lay or maybe the rest of your girls to start, maybe just to get one normal egg? What ever it is......

HANG IN THERE!!! OUR TIME IS COMING!!!!!!!barnie.gif
