Quail eggs are driving me mad!! - Page 6
Yeah!!!!
You will have much better luck!!! Without a thermostat you are at the mercy of the room temperature to stay consistent which is near impossible.
I am a Maine farm girl! 2 horses, 2 dogs, 2 beef calves, 2 cats, a 75 gal fish tank, a Ball python, numerous barnyard banties and 9 EE's and three Muscovy ducks. Holy cow sounds like alot to see it written out!! :)

I stuck three more chick eggs in to see if they are fertile.. nothing yet... Dont think the young roo is completing his duties yet. I have another dozen waiting but dont want to waste them in the bator if they are only good for eating.

Here is a place on BYC that has lots of home made incubators. Most of the people that built these also have instructions with them.

Mine is a combination of many of the ideas I gathered from there.
A fan and a thermostat will improve the performance of your incubator dramatically. Some folks here do OK with dimmers. I would have not hatched one egg using a dimmer since I can't be close-by all of the time.
If you can arrange the fan to blow directly across your bulbs, they will last nearly forever! Insulation and heatsinks are another way to protect yourself against rapid changes in temp.
Is a "torch something like a flashlight? Is a bin anything like a trash-can or garbage-can? LOL UK or Australia?
PM me or Quintinp if you need any advice on the actual bators.
If you have specific questions about quail only, go here.

My Roo is good. Eggs are fertile, but dont think I am going to set any more right now. I have Five adults and fourteen babies now!! I dont need 50 of the little buggers to feed through the winter so guess I better see what I have for hens before I hatch any more. I do have 10 pheasant eggs too. Hoping for mostly males in those they go for $25 a piece.

I would run the fan continuously and guarantee myself good air circulation a well distributed temps. I would use more water or less water to control humidity. We get caught up into using other "moves" to control different variables. Fan to control air circulation and even temps, water to control humidity. Easy peasey. Good hatching Lil Bro!!
