I decided not to try button quail I did more reading and they can be very aggressive with each other. Dont want to deal with it...  My one lonely pheasant eggs is still growing.  I used to have more animals but I lost several  of them this year. sad.png  Im going to have to get rid of some chickens before winter too.  With our feed prices going up I dont want to feed 30 chickens.

I am a Maine farm girl! 2 horses, 2 dogs, 2 beef calves, 2 cats, a 75 gal fish tank, a Ball python, numerous barnyard banties and 9 EE's and three Muscovy ducks. Holy cow sounds like alot to see it written out!! :)

Always get attatched to them. It was just a bad year.  I dont usually name the chickens unless they manage to make it through a few fox attacks.  If they can do that then they may get a name.  I have Roo and Sissy, Black Broody , Henny Penny and No Name right now for adults. All the others are this years babies and teenagers.  Too hard to keep track of who is who for names while they are going through their  feathering and first Moult the colors change so much.

Naa dont eat the chickens. Ive never had any gain enough weight to make it worth the plucking cause I free range my birds and I have banties right now. I do raise a beef critter for the freezer every couple years. I grew up on a farm so have always been around "pets" that we ate. It is a fact of life that I am glad I had to learn while growing up. My younger son is learning to deer hunt now.  So should have a full freezer for winter. Saves alot on the grocery bill not having to buy meat at $5 per lb for beef.
