LOL-my husband laughs too-but I think he is secretly enjoying them more than I am!!  He calls our basement my mini-farm since I have 1 3-tier rack full of vegetable seedlings starting and a brooder full of peeping chickens!  If I had it my way there would be some ducks and a goat in there somewhere too!

Welcome to BYC and welcome to Colorado. I live in Loveland as well and this is my first year keeping chickens in the city. My boxers aren't terrified of the birds but they are definitely curious! Good luck with everything.

Hi all. Thought I would post an update of our little flock. The oldest two are six weeks now and the baby in the upper right is 4 weeks. The chicks were out growing their tub so we moved them into a dog crate in the downstairs kitchen. We are working on the coop. We like the 4 x 10 a frame tractor, so we will either find someone to build it or get the kids together and build it ourselves. grown kids that is. Anne B. got a little agressive when we moved them into the new pad. She would fly into the other birds with her neck feathers ruffled. We are still wondering if she is a roo. She is the most adventuresome and curious, always checking everything out. So far no sounds out of the ordinary chick peeps and squawks. Hoping to have the coop built the weekend of April 28 and 29. I got them fifty mealworms and they devoured them in five minutes. The next time I got a hundred. They are so much fun to watch!!! We are doing the a frame chicken coop tractor that is on youtube.com. The builder is in OshKosh Wisconsin so its too far for us to get his, but we are building ours like it without the vents in the top since we can get down to -25 at night here sometimes.

Our girls go over our 4' fence (originally a dog run so they just go into the rest of our backyard) and it would be EASY for them to go from that perch to the top of the 6' fence but they have never even stepped foot on it! They like it in our backyard and have no desire to leave it!

Hi fellow Coloradans!  Coloradoans?  Heh.  I'm a former Centennial resident, recently moved to Parker out in Elbert County (very close to Elizabeth). I just posted in the new member thread; basically I'm very new and will be starting to raise my first chickens in a few weeks. Am excited to read through the thread and see where everyone is located. :D

eleanor (ee), stella (ee), hazel (rhode island red), penelope (buff orpington), pecky sue (silver laced wyandotte), brooke (calico kitty), and nugget (norwegian elkhound mix).

What breeds do you have? Some get a lot heavier as they grow. My little Australorp was enthusiastic in her young days and now won't (or can't) get 4 feet up to sit on the tops of the nest area.
