There seemed to be, but then I've only ever been to one other swap. I'm not sure if we missed out on anything or if it was just everything in the back lot. We didn't have a lot of time to explore and it was about noon when we got there.

Mama to a whole bunch of birds. An unknown # of chicks, 10 EE, 1 RIR, 1 BR, 2 SLW, 3 silkies, 1 Cuckoo Maran, 2 blue cochin, 4 turkens, 2 doms, 6 barnyard babies, 4? black broiler sweeties I can't eat, and 3 embden geese. (36 chickens, 3 geese)

Hmm.  I'm not sure how it works either.  I'm in Parker but on the Elbert County side, so it's a little different.  No HOA, and I have 5 acres zoned for residential agriculture so I think I can have a maximum of 15 poultry and/or fowl, roos included.

It's a hot one out there today!  I'm running myself ragged checking on the girls in their coop.  Maybe not the best for their first full day outside to be a 99 degree day, but they need to be outside.  I'm just about out of brooders big enough for them and can't handle the indoor mess anymore.  Grateful that I have a few vacation days this week so I can be home to check in on them!  Stay cool, everyone.

Are you all talking about the swap in Wheatridge?

There was 2 people that come all the time.  And there was one person that knew them with a few chickens.  The one vendor bought all of his/her chickens, so they weren't there long.  The man that runs the swap in Pueblo West said there are usually a few more vendors but they didn't show up.  I kinda felt odd since I only brought 9 roos and a duck.  The other guys had everything from mini quail to peacocks!!!  I did not go to the one in Penrose since I sold all mine in Pueblo West.  If you are looking for a selection, it was there! (Pueblo West)

I would like to say that my birds looked much better than the others!!!  I guess it is since I didn't have as many.  Mine had large cages and lots of space compared with theirs.

I went to the one in Wheatridge. I had never been to one before so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Honestly, a bit disappointed. There were some expensive pre-made chicken coops, about 4 pickups selling rabbits, Guinea pigs, turkeys and hens ....quantities in that order. No chicks. I got there about 9:00 so perhaps it had yet to gear up, don't know. On a brighter note, it was my first step into a feed store. Got to look at supplies/feed and prices. Also, the feed store had 8-9 different kind of chicks for sale including the 4 I'm interested in. So It really wasn't a bust, but I wouldn't make the hour drive up from CS to do it again. But might drive up to get chicks if Big R doesn't carry them in Falcon.

Also, putting the last touches on my coop...paint and screw roof in place. Next I'll start on the run. Planning on getting 4 hens and wondering if I should make my run 4'x6' or 4'x9' (plus the 4'x4'x1.75' "room" under the coop). Can I use netting for the top of the run (6' high) or is that just asking for a racoon ambush?

If you've got the room for it make it bigger imo. Ours is 6x6' and it feels a bit small for five. Plus you never know when you'll be doing chicken math... We don't have raccoons up on the north side of town (that I have seen anyway), but we DO have some giant hawks that could get through netting no problem. I'd use hardware cloth for sure.
