OMG I love this!! A surprise baby horse! Does it get better than that?

My babies are 6 weeks old and they are all roosting every night now (for several nights)! It's the most hilarious thing....we have two roosts in there for them, each is 29" so pretty short but the chicks are still little. All 11 chicks CRAM themselves onto the top roost! There is less than 3" per chick up there but they insist! It's hilarious because as they are trying to settle in they keep knocking each other off the roost!

Momma to 3 boys, 2 girls, 1 sweet dog, 1 evil cat, 1 bunny, 2 gerbils, 9 pullets and 2 rogue roos!

Aw, they are so cute! I can't believe the comb on that baby! He's a Roo for sure! That's as big as the comb on my 6 week old Roo! Crazy!

lol.png I finally caught a mouse in a snap trap and gave it to the big girls to gauge their mouser instincts. The didn't even hesitate, Sunny grabbed it and an intense game of mouse-rugby ensued. Sunny hogged the 'ball' but it was obvious that all three knew what to do with a mouse! I could just hear Sunny shrieking "Best Treat EVER!!!". I need more snap traps... roll.png

TA DA - It's official.  All 3 (2 BR & 1 BA) of my oldest pullets (23 weeks) are now laying.  My Wellies (20 weeks) are seriously eyeing the nest boxes.  Eat your heart out MO.

I have opened up the run so all the pullets have the opportunity to be together.  LOL, the young ones have decided they are perfectly happy in the area that used to be fenced off for them and don't venture into the big girls area often, and only then when the biguns are not in sight.  The biguns, however, have not hesitated to reclaim the full run.  So Wendell, your girls are getting a lot of exercise as they are getting chased into the coop a lot.  Still keeping the coop semi-separated.

Caretaker of 1 BA, 1 BR's, 2 Wellies, 1 Dominiques, 1 EEs & a Jack Russel Mix (affectionately called the B**ch dog from HELL).  RIP Hootchie & Slick, my best friends.

Oh yeah! Sheesh, my pullets are 5-6 months old and they don't even have combs that big yet.


In pullet news, my silver-laced cochin squatted for me twice this week! Three days ago I was grabbing them all to put them out in the tractor for some weed eating. She was the last one in the run, so she scrambled to get away like the grumpy lady she is, and when I got my hand on her back she froze, squatted down, stuck her wings out at right-angles, and started chirping softly. At first I thought I hurt her until I realized what she was doing. Then last night I was holding them in the run and picked her up for some pets, and she did it again on my lap!

It is kind of weird now that I know what that means, but also kind of cool that they think I'm the "rooster" of the house wee.gif

Ok, no one mentioned -that I remember- that Big R had chicks right now! DH had to pry me away with a crowbar. There were these beautiful chicks; lav wyandottes I think. Also EEs and generic white chicks that I couldn't guess a breed on. The wings on the lavs made me think of butterfly wings.

I have The Fever. Only the fact that I don't have a brooder set up and Summer likely wouldn't take them stopped me.

Today was a good day. It's my Friday for this week, we won $4 on the powerball, oh yeah and this was waiting in one of the nest boxes today...

(because I can't upload a picture from my iPad here is a link to our...) EGG!

At first I thought he was playing a joke on me by putting a fake one in there but it's real and beautiful. I wasn't expecting this for weeks! big_smile.png
