Does anyone want the July / August edition of "Chickens" magizine fron Hobby Farms? Fairly informative...pretty basic stuff though.

I'm in the springs. Think I paid $6 for it at B&N. Let me know if you want to pick it up.

Got a lot painted, then one of the rollers broke. Bummer. Had to take a break.

I just picked up the Sept/Oct issue. I like the publication.

Got an interesting call last night....Looks like a group of us are going to catch "The Bourne Legacy" this afternoon at Centera. I'm taking my son with me.

I'm in Ft Collins as well...well, that's the address although our back fence is the city line, so technically we're in the county.  It took some serious research but I finally discovered that here, we're allowed up to 6 chickens, but no roosters.  It was actually pretty easy to find info for the city but took more work for the county.

 

We picked up our girls yesterday, woohoo!  Hubby has lots of chicken experience but when I took one to the cage it was the first time I'd ever touched a live bird...it was awesome!  We got 6 red sexlinks that are about 8 months old and the woman we got them from said they started laying in May and hadn't missed a day since.  One of the girls just popped one out, which surprised me...after the stress of the move and our dogs, I figured it would put 'em off for a day or two.

 

Anyway, hope this might help others...it's a reply I got from the county:

Backyard chickens. The keeping of up to six chicken hens is permitted as an accessory use to a residential use. The keeping of roosters or more that six chicken hens is prohibited in all zone districts except those that allow farm uses. The following requirements apply:

1.The chicken hens must be provided with a covered, properly ventilated and predator-resistant chicken coop.

2.The chicken hens must have access to an outdoor enclosure that is adequately fenced to protect them from predators.

3.The coop and enclosure are limited to a maximum size of 120 square feet.

4.The chicken coop and outdoor enclosure shall be regularly cleaned to control dust, odor and waste and not constitute a nuisance, safety hazard, or health problem to surrounding properties.

LOL. You can actually see David painting the bottom edge of the coop, but he's hard to see. Eric was around the back. Beth was taking the photos.

I've decided that Wendell's #49 is my favorite chicken out of them all.  She just jumps on my lap when I sit down and is content to snuggle against me.  I have determined that she is going to have lots of little baby chicks someday and is never going to be destined for the soup pot.  His other 2 aren't as personable.

 

I did finally get my colloncas in from Boston.  They were in transit almost for 2 days.  They are a little shell shocked but doing fine.  They have decided they like the little white silkies that were hatched july 7th and have been hanging with them.

I got mine from Cutler Supply. Different color for each year.  For me, 2012's color is white.

 

What a coincidence, Wendell's #44 (Dominique with a broken toe) is now my favorite.  All his birds (except the picked on EE, and she even has her moments) are extremely friendly and 'people broke'.  As a matter of fact, since they are still leery of my big girls, they have now quit running into the coop when I am there and prefer to fly up to my lap/shoulders for protection.  They are all fine looking birds.  Sure wish I hadn't contributed to one of them breaking her toe.
