Hello from Northern VA (western Loudoun County)

Thread Starter

Hello, I'm Bill and my wife and I have been raising chickens and most recently turkeys for the past couple yrs.  Currnelty, we have 20+ chickens of various varieties and 5 poults (3 Bourbon Reds, and 2 Royal Palms).  Next weekend we'll be receiving fertile eggs of Bourbon Reds, Rolyal Palms, Narragansettes and Auborn Tigers.  I've built all my coops and in the process of building more (never ending project...)  We (really my wife) is wanting a couple peafowl, so I'm trying to educate myself with them and what accommodations we need to provide.  Any suggestions, espcially on housing you can offer is appreciated.  Thank you, and God Bless!

Hello and welcome to BYC frow.gif Wow, you got some interesting breeds!

Can't tell you anything about peafowl, except they are darn cute! But do check out the Peafowl section. I don't have any peafowl myself, but I had a look there recently and it's very informative.

Hello, Western Loudoun! One of my favorite spots as I spent a good bit of my formative years hanging out in that area. That was many years ago, when what is now old Rt. 7 was the only Rt. 7. While it may be different now, Loudoun - especially the western end - is always beautiful.

Welcome to BYC! This is a great place. I'm new to chickens and have learned tons here, truly couldn't have done it without this board and the members. Best of luck to you and enjoy!

Two old people and two young-adult children. One senior chocolate lab and one rescued black and tan American Coon Hound. Home of "The Best Mouser In The World", Lily, a calico cat that adopted us. 2 Black Star's, 1 Red Star and BABY CHICKS! Have added 2 Barred Rocks, 2 Buff Orpingtons, 1 Ameraucana, and 1 Delaware to the flock. The construction of our new coop: http://www.backyardchickens.com/...
