Hi

they are Blue Laced Red Wyandottes.

Glad to hear you are hatching well and that the one pipped at the wrong end came out ok.  Is the goo thing the yolk sac - or is it stuff ON the chick?  If you have some poly visol vitamins and some sugar water or electrolyte water you could give that to the weak one....it does help.

This was only my second hatch and I have had a trip on both.  Dont know if you can ever quite figure this thing out...I am sure some have it down to a science - maybe in time.

So glad to hear that everyone is finally hatching some fuzzy butts. I pulled the plug on the bator this morning and cleaned it out for the next batch. I ended up with 7 healthy chicks which I think is a good number for the first time hatching. The post office called me at 7:30 to tell me my eggs were in and I was there and back by 8am. I ordered 12 Heritage RIR eggs and got 15. The lady who sent/packaged them did such a great job that all 15 eggs were intact and the cold pack was still cold!! One of the eggs has a small crack (looks like a pip actually) so I put some wax over it and will hope for the best.

This has been a GREAT learning experience and I am so glad I got to meet all of you. Good luck with your babies and hope to see you all in another thread.

Can you post a picture of it? I am thinking it is a hernia from your description.

The first picture is of the guy who took over 30 hours to hatch.  But he sure did.  He was the biggest egg.  This picture is of the first 14 hatchlings.  Two are drying up in the bator and my lone silkie egg has piped. The last egg I don't think will hatch.  It's the questionable one that I kept.  I may keep the bator on for another day or two for it.  These are barnyard mixes.  Can you tell what they are.  Most of them have a lavender Ameraucan for a dad.  The black ones have a brown leghorn for a mom.  the blue/gray babies are Ameraucana mom and dad (I think).  If you know what they are,  please let me know.  As you can see, I am using a little bowl as a waterer.  I gave away my chick feeder and waterer when I moved my pullets to their coop .  I didn't know I'd be hatching chicks within a month of giving them away.  Silly me.  They all seem healthy.  As you can see, some have had their first poop.  It's green.  I had no idea.

700

Just hatched.

USPS wont insure eggs. Too much liability I suppose. I guess this is jut the risk you take buying eggs online.
