Duckling names?!? - Page 4

Can they refund them for that? I just don't want the same problem, that would be devastating. I know some people who ordered eggs someplace and got 5/6 ducks to hatch! so I'm going to ask where they got their eggs. Im not sure if its local, but with a hatch rate like that I'm going to trust it!

private breeders specifically state they arent responsible for hatch rates and rough PO handling. If they refunded and replaced for every egg that never hatched no one would sell hatching eggs. People are quick to point fingers when eggs dont hatch, but lets face facts here.

Many people dont take great care with hatching eggs once they arrive.

shipping is a risk, yes you can get great results and breeds not available locally too

using incubators that have not been properly calibrated will result in bad hatches

temp spikes and unreliable thermometers will lead to bad hatch results

poor air flow, humidity levels and many other things can effect a hatch rate.

Most will pack well, and ship fertile eggs. Beyond that it is luck of the draw for hatching. Those who never hatched before it is best to start with easy chicken eggs, before diving into harder eggs that require more hands on attention.

well, i am going to get a new heat lamp, one that is temperature controlled, from a friend. And try to get eggs shipped from a closer location because Metzer Farms is all the way across the country and thats probably why the eggs didnt develop-- because so many people handled them.

I shipped duck eggs from FL to Cali not once but twice and they developed and hatched. A heat lamp isn't controlled enough for incubating. You are better off with the cheapest styro bator than a cooler and heat lamp.

I have one female black Swedish duck, Quackers.

She is the world to me and I don't know what I would do without her.

I also have a hamster, 20 gallon fish tank, and two cats.

I am clearly an animal lover and that will NEVER change.

Well I'm in nj and thats further, plus my towns post office isn't what you call "gentle" so someone must have chucked the box into a truck or something. Im going to get some new stuff for the bator and see what happens with NEW EGGS from a diff place, maybe a closer place. Oh, and thanks PetDuck!
