So i got 9 all black sex links becaues i gave away 10 ducks. so since i thought i was sure an all black chic was female i was confident in buying more chics since my pocket book can now afford more now minus the ducks. this one has color coming in on his back and it looks to be barred. the ones on his chest looked mixed to me. barred none barred.

Those are hens. Depending on what rooster was over the barred rock hen the pullets can have quite a bit of color on the front part of the body. I've seen just the slightest touch of red at the throat to the entire neck and chest being reddish gold kinda mixed with the black.

Male black sex links are colored pretty much like a barred rock pullet.

Well, the kittens aren't so cute anymore and the easter egger cockerels are in the freezer. Plus, I think offering them as "prizes" scared folks off! So, I'm still posting quotes, if you know it let me know. I'm very enamored of this new one, it may hang around for a while!

at 5 weeks old will this be its final coloration. and am i wrong about the feathers on the back starting to get barred color. I didnt think any pullets would have any barred feathers. sorry for my confusions. they were advertised as being Rhode Island Red males and Barred Plymouth Rock females

I didnt have my barred cochins roos start turning noticebly diffrent color till they were around this age or a lil bit after.

The gold/red may spread a little, but basically what you see is what she is. It's pretty classic black sex link.
