New BYC Features & Updates - New Image Uploader - Social Media & Sharing Buttons

Thread Starter

We're always working to improve our user's experience on BYC.  Here are a few updates that have been rolled out to our wonderful community, New Image Uploader & Social Media Buttons.

New Image Uploader - part 1

Here are the first steps toward our new image uploader in threads, reviews, articles, and PMs.  While it doesn't yet include the ability to upload images from existing photo albums (it's coming!), we've consolidated the flow and improved the process and options!

Now when you click the image upload button, you will see a dialog with two upload options:

Most of the time you'll be uploading pictures from "My Computer", so you just click that button.  When uploading images from your computer, you can now select multiple images to upload at once, just hold down the 'ctrl' key while clicking on the photos.  Alternatively, you can continue using a single image URL to upload images.

Once you have selected an image to upload from either your computer or an image URL, you will see the image progress bar along with your options to embed the image into your post at varying sizes:

NOTE:  This only impacts the size of the EMBEDDED (thumbnail) images that show in your post.  Clicking the image from within the post will still bring up the larger version of the picture.

Social Media Sharing

One of the most wonderful things about our community is how social everyone is.  People's desire to share what they love has been growing like crazy and we're excited to announce some new buttons that will make this easier.  Social sharing is making its debut in this release.

The 4 options for social sharing are:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Pinterest
  • email (via a mailto link which will open up your default email client).

Here's a quick look at what the buttons look like on the various pages (displaying all 4 on all content types)...

Please feel free to browse around the site and play with posting some of your favorite posts, articles, etc. to Facebook & Twitter, and then post some of your favorite pics to Pinterest!

We hope you enjoy these two new features!  If you have any questions please let us know by posting them here.

WONDERFUL!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I hadn't tried to upload an image for a couple of days, so I thought it was something added during the maintainence window last night.

Here are a few questions that will help us find, duplicate, and hopefully resolve the problem:

•  What were the exact steps you took before having the problem?  Please be as specific as possible so we can do exactly what you did.
•  Which browser and version are you using (eg., Firefox 3.5.9, Internet Explorer 7, etc.)
•  Have you logged out, deleted your internet cache / browser history of files, logged back in, and tried again?
•  Have you tried a different browser (we suggest Firefox or Chrome)?

Can someone explain how to upload a picture from my computer with this new system..I've done all those things too and no go...it is beyond frustrating and I'm losing my patience, what was so wrong with the "old" system that it had to be altered?.......................................................chrisf

Chris, we're sorry you're having issues, but we really need way more details about the problems you're having.  What do you see, what do you not see, etc.  Specifically, we need answers to each of these questions:

•  What were the exact steps you took before having the problem?  Please be as specific as possible with the steps you went through so we can do exactly what you did.
•  Which browser and version are you using (eg., Firefox 3.5.9, Internet Explorer 7, etc.)
•  Have you logged out, left BYC, deleted your internet cache / browser history of files, logged back in, and tried again?
•  Have you tried a different browser (we suggest Firefox or Chrome)?

Regarding why we made changes:  This new process provides some requested features:

  1. The ability to upload more than one picture at a time... a HUGE time saver if you're uploading a bunch of pics at once.
  2. The ability to select the thumbnail size of the image.

With tens of thousands of members we can't make everyone happy all the time, but we really try hard to do it!  smile.png

I've done all this, once again, since it wasn't explained in the first post and I ask again, can someone explain how to upload a photo from the computer like it was before? or is that not possible?...........thanks.............................chrisf

These steps did not work for me either, I was using firefox went to upload a photo .The pop up box would show but the my computer button would not be there, I did go thru all the steps and then logged back on, still did not work.....I then switched over to internet explorer (which I hate using) but it worked, if you figure out why some of us are having problems please post the solution, I would prefer to use firefox forgot to add I do not know which version of firefox I am using, but I do remember it doing an automatic update only a few days ago.
