What Kind of Chicken is this?

We got this little guy out of the Blue Laced Wyandotte box. His brothers turned out like the typical blue laced red, but Dandy looks white with red on the wings and splashes of blue and black on the neck and tail. What color is he?he?  phonejuly2012 079.jpg

No clue but WelcometoBYC.gif. Hopefully the experts can chime in for you.

Helen: Daria, do you have to look at everything in such a negative light?

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?

Looks like a young Blue Laced Red Wyandotte roo to me, just might not be very pure...how old is he? I wanted to get these birds for myself but we didn't have anyone local with them this year.

Well, would say he is a splash phase version of BLR, with not a lot of emphasis on the L part.

Thank you! I was kind of going with the Blue laced red on white splash. He is about 3 1/2 months old. The two that came with him are beautiful typical blue laced red roosters. We picked them up at Murdoch's in Missoula MT. They were all suppossed to be pure, and from the little research I was able to do today, you can get a splash from breeding a blue to a blue, as it is a regressive allele, so 25% of the eggs can be splash? Not quite sure. I was waiting for the kids and chicken frenzy to die down so I could focus.

Sorry I didn't mean to imply that he is not of good genes. I was just saying he isn't as ideal of a color as you might have hoped for and that might be why you were thinking he was a different breed. I can''t verify the genetics of the breed but you're correct that the offspring of two blues will reflect some of the other color traits. And let him get a little bit older or through a molt or two before you settle on his feather colors.
