Brooder Light help

Thread Starter

Hi everyone, after some advice and help

I have 15 eggs (Quail) in the incubator due in 9 days time.

I built the brooder (well hubby did lol) and we recycled a lamp head, its a big reflective lamp so perfect BUT its old and the fitting is for Bayonet style bulbs!! (Old style with prongs) and the only heat lamp bulbs i can find ONLY come in screw in bulbs :(

Lamp has been very much fixed to the lid!

Is there anything i can do?

I can use a normal light but wanted to red lamp so it wasnt so blinding to the chicks.

any suggestion would be great :)

I wish I could help.  Only responding because I suspect people are like me and just don't have an idea of how to fix this.  Since you are new I didn't want you to think no one was reading your post.  They probably just don't have an answer.  Hope someone helps you out.

change the socket to a regular (ceramic) one rated to 250 watts. Otherwise you are going to have to special order the bulbs for it, pay a premium + shipping everytime  you use it and/or it burns out the bulb.  The sockets aren't expensive and you'll save the cost of it on the first bulb.  To determin how high the lamp needs to be, place a thermometer on the floor of the brooder directly under the lamp and adjust the height until you get the proper temperature (95º).
