whats wrong with this little chicks leg??

Hey good evening everybody.

I have this little week old Cornish chick who's leg seems to be bothering it. I jut noticed tonight that it was walking with a little hobble, so I picked it up to check it out. When I took it to the bathroom with better lighting and out it up on the counter, it instantly put its leg up against its body. It does seem to be hurting it, when I placed it back in the brooder it started to like "shake" his leg.

It dosent seem to be hindering the little guy too much, he's still hoping up on the little roost and pecking around. I'm not sure if maybe it was injured by another chick while eating or something like that. They do get quite roudy during feeding.

If anybody recognizes what might be wrong or could provide any tips to help the chick out. Thanks BYC! Enjoy the night.

It looks like the higher joint in the leg is a little red. Maybe you should put a little bit of cold, wet cloth on the area and see if that helps at all.

Just hold the cold wet rag in his leg?

Theres definitely redness and inflammation. I just took these. Check this out...

Anyone ha e any idea what that is and/or how to treat it? Will it get worse? (of course it'll get worse) do you think it can make it 4-5 more weeks till processing?

It looks like it might be an infection. I'd try to get it strong antibiotics, more so than penicilin. And yes, you can just hold the cloth on it. I wish you luck! smile.png

stronger than penicilin if that doesn't work, my bad

You don't have to have a script for penicillin?

I found it on another thread to use penicilin for an infection in the leg but it wasn't enough. I think you can goto TSC (Tractor Supply) for penicilin. I'm not certain so you might want to look at the site to see if they have it. The site is...www.tractorsupply.com. Hope you little peeper gets better!

okay TSC does have penicillin and the dosage is 1/2 cc daily for 3-4 days
