So I was awakened at 5:39 a.m. to the sound of a very loud egg song. I got up, made a cup of coffee, put on a coat and flipflops and headed out to the coop. All the girls were in the yard celebrating. I went inside and found all three nest boxes in disarray and in the middle one, a pretty little reddish egg with white spots. My little Wellie laid her first egg! I grabbed the egg and headed out of the coop. I put my foot down on the step which was covered with dew. My foot slipped and I fell backwards into the coop with my left leg bent under me. I could not move for the longest time. Finally I slid around on the shavings (
) until i was able to slide my leg out. It took me until 7:30 to pull myself up and hobble to the front of the house to bang on Michael's window for help. He got me back in the house and into my bathroom to wash up. He knocked the shavings off me outside!
I am now in bed with my leg elevated, ice packs on the knee and ankle, bruised up, swelling, and in pain. Can't walk without my cane or walker. I am not sure this is going to be something I can get myself through without medical intervention. I hate even saying that! Going to see how the next couple of hours go and make a decision then. In the meantime, here's the egg!
