Waterfowl Feed Recall 7/2012 - Page 3

I wonder if the weather has really fouled up sourcing for animal feed.

Nine beautiful Runners, four beautiful Buffs, thousands of beautiful memories and counting.

Looking for ducks?  Please consider adopting rescued ducks.  There are many places and people who do rescues, but we are not allowed to post the links due to BYC regs.  So fire up your web browsers and find some sweet, grateful duckies.

I know my local feed prices have gone up.  They say it's because of the corn.

I am kind of a weather and agriculture enthusiast, and I just keep reading about rough weather and crop failures the last several months.  I know this kind of thing happens somewhere every year, just seems this year much of our grain growing areas are hit.

So, hey, field peas and flax and oats aren't that hard to grow on a small scale.  Just sayin'.

Customers with products that do not have the specified lot numbers are not affected by the recall.

Customers who have purchased the recalled products should not store or feed the products and are asked to return unused product to their dealer for replacement.

Yikes! Metal shavings. That's a death sentence for waterfowl.

Speaking of agriculture, the heat wave isn't the only farming catastrophe. Our bipolar weather near Seattle has caused all kinds of weirdness in our crops this season. The kale bolted, the cabbage bolted, the kohlrabi bolted. The CORN is bolting! It's three feet tall and thinks it's time to pollinate. Unheard of. I work on a farm. I want to scream and then cry like a baby.

I talked to our local feed store yesterday.  They said our Purina Flockraiser comes out of Portland mill - but no guarantees that they don't get some of the ingredients from elsewhere.  Anybody in WA know of a local mill?  Scratch and Peck? but that's quite pricey.

Newby your feed you listed isn't part of the recall, only the low end sunfresh layer feed from purina for chickens, it is the lowest (and least expensive) in their line of feeds.

There is Excel Feed in Tacoma and they make a Duck & Goose pelleted feed.  I've been trying them out.  I'd be interested to hear others' experience with Excel.

ChristineR, I tried their feed for a month because it was considerably cheaper.  Double the duck poop (at least - if not more!) and ducks just didn't seem as healthy. I switched back after only 1 month.
