I love Chickens.

Thread Starter

Hello. I am a first time everything. I have had my chickens for a few months now and its great. They have a great backyard to run in with lots of cover. Lots of bugs to catch. In fact now that we have them, I am not seeing as many spiders as before. I never knew owning chickens could be so fun. I started with 5 but unfortunantley they figured out how to get out of the coop at night and one was killed. Now that we have converted an old shed to a coop they are safe. I have a silkie and the rest I have no idea. This all started off as a small project for my daughter whos 1st grade class incubated eggs and hatched them. She talked me into bringing home a few, raisng them for a bit then giving them to a friend who owns and raises chickens for eggs. We grew so attached we could not let them go.

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan big_smile.png

Home of the world's cutest dachshund, one crazy blue heeler, two cats,
one fat pony, and many (but not too many!) chickens

Can anyone tell me, how many are too many chickens?

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?

Hi and welcome-byc.gif

Glad to have you on board!
They do actually eat a lot of spiders. And crickets, and cockroaches. They make a good place to put all the dead insects we find. lau.gif

Your other chickens look like Polishes, by the way. I just took a closer look at your avatar.

Anywho, I hope you find all the info you need here, and enjoy the site. big_smile.png
