Framing gable roof

i need help doing the roof on my chicken coop. I am doing a gable and am absolutely lost on how to do this. Will someone help or point me in the direction on how to do this? I have no clue how to lay it out and get the right pitch, etc.... Please let me know.

I hire a lot of younger guys to work at my contracting business. That being said, all of them carry around one of these:

Harbor Freight has them for about $20 so don't get sticker shock at the HD prices.

Where are you in skill level?  Are you wanting just a basic gable roof structure (simplistic help) or are you talking doing birdmouth cuts and the whole nine yards???  Simplistic I could help with; built to code not so much.

Do you have a miter saw?  I do remember using an 18.5 (or thereabouts) degree cut to achieve the pitch I wanted (4:12).  If you're in an area that gets a heavy snow load I'd think you'd want a steeper pitch though...

There are lots of videos on Utube on roofing and truss building, or stop by a Home Depot or Lowes. They have instructional books on the subject.
