I took my chicks out into there run today and they layed down opened there wings and rolled over to the side letting the sun shine on them. Is this normal? They seemed to love it. Putting them back in the coop, well they hated that for every two I put back in one would run back out.

Yeah its pretty normal, even the black ones love to lay there and soak up the sun :) ...sometimes they dust themselves in the dry dirt and lay on there sides with legs and wings outstretched lol ...its pretty cute to watch them.

Oh yes! Totally normal. My ladies will walk around with their feathers all fluffed out to absorb the sunshine, really funny to watch. And they will scratch up the ground and roll in the dirt mess they created. Such fun creatures to just watch!

Hi,
welcome-byc.gif
that is totally normal behavior.

It's normal and absolutely hilarious! My four bantams have done this since they were wee things. They will all simultaneously collapse into one pile and throw out a wing. They look as if they are playing dead. I thought something was wrong with them the first time it happened. After several sunning displays, I determined it was normal. They are about 16 weeks old, and still do this. My daughter cracks up every time - says they are "doing their sunbathing thingy". Hoot!

Did they look like this?

Ain't it incredible how they can be normal one second and flopping on their sides the next?

My guess is that they are sunbathing?? They usually only stay there for a couple of seconds then get up and do it again. Is this normal?
