Chick Names

Avoid cliché names! embrace creativity.

 

I am not trying to sound pretentious, I have been guilty of it myself.  My old buff orpington was named Buffy.  You get the idea.  I've found clever is best.  I had a barred rock rooster named Barredrock Obama.  Politics aside(please), I just thought it was funny how barred rock are white/black and how Barredrock sounds somewhat close to Barack.  

I don't name chicks.  With very few exceptions, I wait until they demonstrate their personalities, and then their names "come to me."  It's almost as if they are naming themselves.

 

Most of my poultry have "people" names.  I, too, have a buff Orpington named Buffy, but her FULL name is Buffy The Vampire Slaying Orpington.    As a chick, she was very brave, intrepid, AND the best bug catcher.  ... I guess you hadda been there...

Our boss rooster is named 'Shurrup' because that's what I shout at to him at 3.00am.

3am... Dang, thai.  My first(and best) rooster was a champ.  He was oversized, somewhat aggressive(mostly to strangers).   but he would chime in at about 4:20am every day.  Some of my friends liked to make the joke about the whole marijuana slogan of 4:20 but I promise you it was not that pleasant...  I like to wake up at around 6:30.   One funny story was last winter.. a tree came down and crashed power to my small community.. we live on a dead-end and there are only about 8-10 of us.  I called the power company and for whatever reason only me and my neighbor were without power... literally the two of us.   Anyways they showed up at about 2:00am to fix our power.  They had BRIGHT lights that lit up the neighborhood.  I would have never known they were fixing our power(I had gone to sleep) except my rooster started crowing at around 2:05am.  At first I was annoyed but once I realized what had happened I just had to laugh.

I cant come up with names? my hen who just hatched 11 babies is ( mama) . I had a banty rooster I called rapper( he sounded like a rap song) . Iam however naming my baby in my pic pearl (if female ) and 11 (if rooster) . coolest baby ever black on wi only! now my main man who is a br is hilarious! he woke me up at 2 in the morning he sounded like a dog barking. I was fixing to go run off some dogd!

I usually wait to see what their personalities are like first. Or I give them non-descript names. 

I named my barred rock Oreo and my EE is Eggo. I'm so original LoL

I also have a bad habit of naming them for the wrong gender
