Hi folks, here are some pics of my 2 blue Brahma chicks, now 6 1/2 weeks.  I hatched them with my broody dark Brahma, Misery.  Can anyone help with sexing them? It's the first chicks I've hatched. Also, one is very light blue, is this unusual does anybody know? Thanks!

They are mixed, so they will be harder to sex. Are they mixed with Cochin? The feet feathering is very heavy. I swear I see Cochin in them.smile.png

If I were to guess, the second lighter chick(Wednesday) is a boy due to the lack of tail. This is just a guess though. They are surly stunning in color! What beautiful birds.

Hi, well, I bought the eggs from Ebay, listed as blue Brahmas, so don't know about whether they have any cochin in, but see what you mean.  I am very pleased with their colouring, not bad for my £3 ($6?) outlay!! I'm hoping they are both girls or one of each so I can keep them.  The light one is certainly more cocky, so would make sense to be a boy! wink.png

What beauthiful chicks you have! As a breed, I love Brahmas and you are so lucky to have more than the traditional colors available to you!

I have never seen Blue Brahmas before, but with the black/blue/splash color scheme a chicken will be splash (whitish blue with spots of blue feathers hear and there) if they have 2 copies of the blue gene, so Wednesday may be Splash.

I think Brahmas are also hard to sex. The two things I hve found useful are looking for very delayed (and no tail for the first couple of weeks) on boys and looking at their combs for the side-rows of little bumps along side the main row. Perhaps an extra zoomed-in close-up of their little combs will help us out.

My guess is :  1 is a boy and 2 is a girl, just by their combs and feathering.

The pea comb is dominant over the straight comb when breeding usually. I'd strongly guess that these are project birds and not true "blue brahmas".

With the combs, light brahmas are the exception of the 3 rows for females. I have both dark and light brahmas. My dark brahma had a very small comb compared to my light brahma. My light brahma has a large 3 row pea comb. Both female.

The leg and foot feathering of your birds is like a Cochin. I would say these are brahma/Cochin mix. They are absolutely beautiful! It's a very nice mix!

Hi, thanks for your nice comments, it would be great if Wednesday is a splash! I looked at other posts about the bumps, and neither of them have those. Also, both their feathers cam in very quickly - I will add some picks of them when they were younger.

7001 day old, ahhhhh!

10001 week old-ish

1000at 2 weeks, and both have pretty good tails.

1000Wednesday at 1 week I think

Remember Juno is from England where they have a greater variety of colors available to them--Blue is still a non-standard color and is under development but not as much of a project bird as you might imagine. Here is a link to a website: http://brahmacochin.co.uk/

I'm going to guess both female. By the fast feathering I'm guessing they are girls.

Good luck!

Oh my gosh they were so adorable when first hatched! love.gif

My gut is that they are a pair since they are feathing in the same and with the early tail and no side-bumps on the comb I am going to guess/hope girls. I honestly think it is too early to tell, unfortunately, and you need to give it several more weeks.

ANd I forgot to add earlier:  welcome-byc.gif
