Dang Nasty roo!!  If I didn't need him so bad for my breeding program his new name would be "stew". I had to go to the doctor, as the wound from his spur got all infected & swollen. :/

Ouch!  If you use him for breeding, do you have to worry about passing along the nasty temperament?

A mind is like a door.  Keep it open and something might get in.

No, he wasn't nasty until recently. I think it is him being protective of his 2 hens now that they are in a smaller pen.

Ouch!!! hit.gif I have about 15 different roos and we have a spur clipping day about every other month or so.  They are all used to it  and dont mind at all and nobody  has ever flogged me except a silkie roo and he is gone now clap.gif   I clip the spurs to about 1 to 1 1/2 " long, each time you clip you can go a tiny bit shorter because the quick kinda shrinks back after a time. I keep some quick stop bleeding powder at hand and keep cutting till i get to a tiny drop of blood. My dog toenail cutters have a gaurd on it so you can only cut a little at a time and it kinda crumbles off cuz you have to cut the edges and move to cut more edge in an around the spur kinda of cut. If I was to get flogged I'd much rather have a blunt  spur hit me... My Ameraucanas are very sweet boys  and are very respectful. I even have an American Game Fowl with huge spurs that are clipped to 1 1/2 " he is 2 years old and has two girls and is just a sweetheart.  He is a big boy about 7 lbs or so and by nature is a fighting fowl but is even nice to boys outside his pen maybe he knows he has no spurs...... trim his spurs before you do any drastic measures
