First, watching a runner duck run is awesome. They can find their own food. They aren't like pekins in water. Mine haven't started laying but I heard their decent.

Its not as fat and slow as a pekin, but its not frail either. I want a mallard but I don't want a flying bird. The rouen is great for that.

They are my calmest birds and are easiest to catch. They eat less than Pekins. I heard they also lay well, but mine are younger.

Hi. I wasn't sure which section to post this in, but without further ado:

I got 25 red stars and 15 that were a few of several different breeds. I have been able to (for the most part) pick out the Delewares, EEs, BRs, RIRs and white Leghorns. I can not, however, pick out the buff orphingtons from the 25 red stars. Can someone tell me what I can look for on my 2 BO's? It's just a curiosity thing but I feel like I'm trying to pick out a needle in a haystack!

4 Easter Eggers- 3 Pullets, 1 Roo

32 Red Stars- 30 Pullets, 2 Roos

3 Buff Polish- Pullets

5 White Polish- 3 Pullets, 2 Roos

2 Delewares, 4 White Leghorns, 2 Buff Orphingtons, 2 Barred Rocks, 3 Easter Eggers- pullets

3 random silkie mixes- Unknown

4 Easter Eggers- 3 Pullets, 1 Roo

32 Red Stars- 30 Pullets, 2 Roos

3 Buff Polish- Pullets

5 White Polish- 3 Pullets, 2 Roos

You didn't say how old yours are but here is one of my BO's at 6 weeks.

Mom to 3 kids that have left the nest, wife to a great husband, 2 bloodhounds, 2 cats, 1 african grey parrot, & a Golden Retr. service dog in training for Patriot Service Dogs, 12 chickens, and 4 ducks!!!

Your orpingtons should have pinkish legs and sex links usually have yellow legs. That's not 100percent with hatchery stock but could give you a start. Depending on how old, the sex links' tails are lighter than the bodies, the orps should be a uniform color over the entire body.

Well, the kittens aren't so cute anymore and the easter egger cockerels are in the freezer. Plus, I think offering them as "prizes" scared folks off! So, I'm still posting quotes, if you know it let me know. I'm very enamored of this new one, it may hang around for a while!
