My parents have peafowl and this posting is for their birds. They have lost 3 and got a call this morning that there is another sick bird. I've thought "cocci" but thought the sulmet or corid have knocked it in the head.
symtoms: loose stool, not eating, not drinking, lethargic, weight loss. All the birds around a year old.
Treatment: Didn't realize the 1st bird was sick until she was past the point of help. 1 week after the death of 1st- 2nd got sick, same symptoms.Corid, with the second sickbird. tube fed. Lost bird inside a week. 10days after 2nd death, 3rd sick bird. Third sick bird, called our livestock vet- nobody there sees birdsand was put in contact with UT avian dept was told to get baytrl from our vet. told 1/2cc every third day. bird intially showed signs of improvement then sharp decline and Lost this bird after 2.5 weeks. No respiratory distress signs in any of the birds.
I have Denagard for my chickens and will be taking it up to their house to start treatment, 18 cc per gallon, this morning.
HELP! I'm at my wits end. We don't have a vet which sees birds/poultry. What else can I do to help my parents birds?
In the past Deerman was the go to person in this forum, and with his passing there's got to be that "go-to-person" on here. My parents both love thier fowl dearly and hate to lose even one and the counts on 3 lost and 1 more sick.
