I'm so excited!!  At what age did yours start laying?  Mine are 21 weeks and arn't doing much.  A little red in the combs, and that's about it.  I was wondering if they tend to be on the slow side, on how early they lay.

http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/686808/egg-colors

There are genes for brown eggs

a gene for blue eggs   (The blue egg gene and the white egg gene are actually alleles for those that understand)

a gene for white eggs.

eggs are either white or blue because of the genetics involved.

Chickens that lay:

white eggs have two genes for white egg ( no blue egg gene) and no brown egg genes.

brown eggs have 2 genes for white egg shell plus genes for brown egg shell.

blue eggs have one blue egg gene( plus a white egg gene) or two blue egg genes ( no genes for white egg) and no brown egg genes.

green eggs have one or two blue egg genes ( no genes for white egg) and brown egg genes.

Pink eggs are just a tinted brown egg. There are no pink egg genes.

Gina's a Silver Laced Wyandotte (and a really beautiful one, too!) and yep, Lulu definitely isn't! :) Look at the bottoms of her feet - if they're yellow, she's probably a Jersey Giant, if they're white, she's probably a Black Australorp. This isn't always a for-sure way to tell, especially if a chicken is from a hatchery, but it might help. If you wait till they're all the way grown, you can probably tell by size - a JG will be very big. wink.png

Yep I have two of them.. love them very friendly. I like the idea of the barndeveler and ameraucna cross. they are laying pretty good now.

Mater of fact I am incubating some of there eggs which are crossed with my Icelandic Rooster. I threw some icelandic and some of these in there.

hopefully I will get crested easter eggers
