Our 18 1/2 week old Welsummer laid her first egg (1.8oz) sometime today. This evening she is mostly just standing around, no interest in anything. I was able to get her to take a few drops of 'Sav-A_Chick'. She will run a few feet to get away from the rooster she doesn't like then will just kinda be in a daze. She headed to the roost early. Any ideas, help?

If she doesn't have any blood coming from her cloaca, I'd just keep her comfortable and watch her. Some of my chickens started laying with no problem, some cried for days before and for hours during. Mine have all turned out fine. I hope yours does, too.

Thanks for your reply, I only have 4 others (a year older) and the web for information! She is moving around and cooing this morning but I am keeping an eye on her. I'm not trying to borrow trouble but some have written about lethargic etc. pullets who are better the next day and then die. I did check her vent yesterday and I guess it looked fine, it wasn't flat, a little bit 'cupped' on one edge. Can't blame her after laying a 1.8 oz first egg... although my others also laid good size firsts. Any other advice out there?!
